mood board

We are using this board to show what kind of colours are going to be in our video and to show what kind of stuff that our target audience likes to do and uses.

Shisha is a recreational activity that all teenagers typically enjoy. Shisha is smoking which is connected with bad teenagers, we wanted to use it because we want to show the girls being 'rebels' and having fun.
Ideally we would want to use a bike like this to show the girly side to them by using a stereotypical colour (pink). However we will be using a blue bike in our video as that is the only props available to us.

Props

School:
Tables and chairs – to show we are in the school bored our heads on the table and not wanting to do any thing and we want to get out off school so we decide to run out of school and how our target audience would most properly feel like when there at school.
Pen-when Niamh is falling asleep Brooke chucks a pen at her head to wake her up.
Iphone- Tasnim using her phone when shes meant to be working and listening.
bowling - the girls went bowling to show fun and excitement
Books closed - shows were in school and we closed our books because we didn't want to do work, like were not bothered to do anything and we don't care.
gum- we are using gum to show that one of the girls are like really they don't care and don't care what people think about them trying to give off the effect that shes a bad girl and don't care what anyone thinks of her.not allowed to have gum in school so there braking the rules.
sheets of paper- because one of the girls gets all the paper and chucks it in the air and tells the other girls to get up and run away with her, this would really effect the teachers because there meant to be doing them papers not chucking it up in the air.

make up- bright colors , eye liner, mascara
cloths  - what teenagers like to wear e.g dresses, shorts, vests , school uniforms, school shoes
shoes - Converses, Timberland,Dr martins,
because our target audience is teenagers and most of the teenagers like to wear when they go out with there friends.

we used this lighting in out video because we thought it would give off the affect that our target audience is like

  • skate board -we are using a skate board to appeal to our target audience because our target audience is 12-22, most of the target audience like to hang with there friends
  • 2 scooter- to show that everyone is having a good time riding around on there scooters and skate boards .
westfiled: westfield is kinda of bright so we would have a bright light but not to bright and really big space to film, its really one of the main places that everyone goes to chill so really its the best place for our music video.
escalator- we are using escalators because in our song , it says "I love it i don't care" so 1 person going up and one person going down and in the middle there hands meet &make a heart were trying to give off the effect that no matter what we do we dont care.

RISK ASSESMENT

Iconna Pop Biography

Icona pop - i dont care

Icona Pop is a Swedish DJ and synthpop duo with electro house music, punk and indie pop influences. The duo, established in 2010, is made up of Aino Jawo (born July 7, 1986) and Caroline Hjelt (born November 8, 1987).

In 2011, they were featured on “Mind Your Manners,” a song by American indie hip hop duo Chiddy Bang. It was released as the lead single from the Chiddy Bang debut studio album “Breakfast” and reached #15 on Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. It also reached #19 on the Top Heatseekers Songs chart.

I Love It,” featuring British singer Charli XCX was issued in May 2012 as a pre-release single off of their self-titled album “Icona Pop” entered the Swedish Singles chart at 48 and has peaked to 2. In the United States, this song is best known as the theme song to the Jersey Shore spin-off “Snooki & JWoww.” The album’s second single “We Got the World” was released in October 2012. The album, “Icona Pop,” was issued by Ten Records in November 2012.

It’s verses are like the narration of a teenager’s diary, before the youthful confidence comes storming in, “take a second look and you’ll see, there is no one like me“. It’s a punchy pop song that has a wonderful blend of obvious hooks, big choruses and a chart-ready appeal, yet it’s still drenched in buckets of ice cool undertones.

Locations

LOCATIONS

SCHOOL/CLASSROOM
We want to start the music video off in school because we want to show that we are rebellious by running out of class and throwing our books and papers in the air. School is an institute where you act in a certain way and we purposely wanted to show that we were more concerned with having fun then following the school's rules and that we are more interested in having a good time then learning, and therefore knowingly break the rules by running out of school. In reality students are punished for this type of behavior but as it is only a dream we show that we can get away with doing as we please.

BOWLING

We chose bowling because its a place where teenagers can hang out together and have fun. Bowling is an activity that you can enjoy with your friends so we knew we would be able to film us all together doing it.  The game itself is not a competitive or serious sport as its a very fun and friendly game. We thought that taking action shots would be very good because if he have lots of shots of us having fun and playing the game it would go with our song as it is lively and upbeat. we will use mid shots showing us handling the ball so it is more like the audience is there with us and can see us having a lot of fun together as a group of young friends. Close up shots will show our individual  reactions which will be effective the audience may laugh along with funny reactions and feel part of the fun by being so up close. If there is close up shots of us laughing and pulling faces while playing the audience may laugh along with us and therefore feel the lively, fun atmosphere we are trying to create for the song.

ARCADE

Arcade was also a place where we went to. We thought that if we went to a place where there's lots of games,It would also be fun because we would be able to get around and play how ever many games we wish to play. This made us look very young and childish, the type of games we played were the type of games that you would usually play with a group of friends. We didn't take that many shots because the lighting in the arcade was very dark so it was not the best place to record in, however we still recorded a few shots.

BATHROOM

The bathroom was a place were we all agreed  but we couldn't record this because we didn't find a big enough bathroom so we abandoned this idea and also because we didn't have enough time.

BEDROOM
Recording in the bedroom was one of our strong idea's that we all agreed on as a group. This was because the bedroom itself was girly and was also very spacious. We wanted it to look like we were having a little sleep over. The reason why we were singing with hair brushes was because we thought that our audience might singalong to the song like this. Us jumping around pushing each other shows how much fun were having, this also relates to our song that we don't care how silly we look we will always have fun.

Wednesday 6 November 2013

We decided to definitely do a pop song as our group was all girls and it is a genre of music we all enjoy and it would be convenient because it would mean people in our group could star in our video. We definitely did not want to do rap as it is very male dominated and we did not want to do rock as we thought none of us knew much about these genres and for pop we would have more of an understanding about conventions. Originally we had a couple of other ideas for song choice. One of the songs we considered was attracting flies by Alunageorge as it did not have a pre-existing well known video. It was also a song that would fit into the pop genre however we rejected this song choice because we thought it was not up-beat and was too slow and we wanted to show the girls having a lot of fun and jumping from shot to shot in different locations to up-beat music. Another song we considered was Avicii- good feeling (a remix of the original by Flo Rida) as it was a very up-beat song and we could of applied similar ideas for potential music videos to this song. However, we decided not to choose this song because we wanted a song that we would lip sink to but this song only has one part where there is any singing and the large majority of the song is just the music.

My moodboard explained.

My moodboard is based on a girly/edgy pop culture so I chose colour, clothing and accesories to represent that. The bright pink colours with the cute shorts and crop tops brought out the young fun girly side to my audience, this contrasts with the dark vampire-ish colours, rawr clothing and sharp heels that represent the edgy reckless teenagers we want to aim our video at. We chose this target audeince as it is a good mix of an audience ,a challenge for us and we have good ideas!

Reason for our song

We chose icona pop - I love it, we all love the song and had many practical ideas. The song is upbeat and fast which a means would could create a very jump cut video which would be fun for us to shoot. For us the song creates an idea of young people breaking out of the person they are, trying something new and doing new things; this helped us to create three strong induviual characters which had very different personalities but the same reason for changing themselves. We then had the idea of following them in our video, this could be possibly a great narrative for our video. The song had english voices singing which reminded us of our acdemic lifes which gave us the idea to start and finish the music video in school. The song 'I love it' had great potential to make an outstanding music video, so we picked it.

Mood board

We made a mood-board of the other artists our target audience would listen to. We decided that the other kinds of artists our target audience would listen to would be these artists. We chose artists that all have a bit of an edge to them because in our song we are showing an edgy/rebellious side to the teenage girls so our target audience will also like these artists. Our target audience will predominantly listen to female artists because they are female themselves and will feel more connected to the artist.

Theory

We have chosen to use Tzvetan Todorov’s theory in our music video because it is a theory that can be used in any narrative. It was an easy way for us to understand how to structure the narrative of our video and for it to be an obvious flow of events so the audience understands the narrative more and willingly goes along with it. The state of equilibrium in our music video is at the beginning when all the students are in the class bored and everything is normal. The disequilibrium is then when the music starts and the girls jump up and leave their lesson because they want to go and have some fun. The recognition is when the teachers are chasing them outside of school and they are running away because this is when they recognise that it has changed as they are running and getting away from teachers trying to make them stay. The fix is that they are out having fun and doing what they like rather than being bored in school and that seems to be the new equilibrium that they are not going back to school and will instead have fun with their time. In fact though it ends with a return or restoration of the beginning of the video as they find themselves back in the classroom and it was all a dream.

We chose Niamh to play Millie as we feel she suits the role the most. This is because we feel she is comitted enough to play the main role and she she is confident with acting and lip singing in the video.

We knew Niamh would have enough spare time to commit and spend time on filming so we knew we could rely on her as the main character. She also looks very much how we imagine so would be perfect for the role. She was confident when picking our chose of song and knew the lyrics already which made us feel she would be best playing Millie.

Character Profile

 Mia

Tasnim Khanom plays Mia, a girl with a banter filled heart however a very strong and aggressive mind. To the people she loves and cares for (her friends, family etc) she can be a respectful and kind yet funny like a 'joker' kind of girl, however if you get on the wrong side of her and annoy her she can be aggressive and extremely threatening even though she probably doesn't intend to be. She was brought up in family of plenty of people (more then 7 in a house) and never got any single one to one attention, she finds this almost awkward to talk about in her everyday life. Her friends are Millie and Friend 1 and she loves her time with them, she tries new things with Millie and doesn't care about the consequence, a consequence to her is exhilarating and fun. She likes fights and tries to put herself in a destructive atmosphere. She bunks school alot and doesn't think that much of eduction and making a living, her upbringing has put her off kids and she doesn't have that much time for younger people. Her life is with trouble making, Millie and Danielle and her loved ones(family).

Character Profile

Danielle

Brooke Shannon will play Danielle, a typical 'blonde' who follows her friends and the 'ditsy' one of the group. From a young age she has always been the stereotypical 'dumb' blonde who tries to fit in with everyone else by following the crowd. Unlike Millie, she isn't as brave and as confident in willing to try new things however if it means she will boost her popularity there is no doubt she would say yes. Her upbringing was good and she was spoilt and showered in good things and designer clothes, a very happy child indeed. She is also in the circle of group Millie is in and looks to Millie as her bestfriend and someone who is always there for her. Even though she can be wary when it comes to dangerous things, she loves to draw any attention to her and her group and loves being fun and flirty. She always takes pride in what she looks like and will not go a day without her makeup bag and hair straighteners.

Character profiles

MILLIE

Niamh McloughLin is playing Millie, an average grade school girl who is bored of her repeated everyday life. Her upbringing was bright however simple and very much repeated. This has influenced on the way she acts when not around her family, almost a different person, Millie behaves mischievous. She likes to act up around her friends and usually finds herself detention or the head teacher’s office.  Millie has a strong circle of friends and is the ‘popular’ girl out of all of them, she has a tighter group of two best friends that she considers herself closest to and can trust with almost anything. She is the type of girl to try new things, some good some bad and no matter what the outcome can get always get away with it; Just like the old saying 'getting away with murder'. The wild choices she makes and crazy things she does are all a reflection of the person inside her she has always wanted to set free inside of her and even though we see the reckless teen she is, we are still reminded that she is still a young school girl experiencing different things (much like other young people) when she wakes up(in the music video) in a classroom and laughs at her outrageous daydream.

MOODBOARD

Narrative

NARRATIVE

Three girls (Tasnim, Niamh & Brooke) are in class, bored to death by their boring teacher. Whilst he talks about rivers and lakes Tasnim chews some plays slyly on her phone, Brooke plays with a pencil and Niamh is slowly drifting off into a ‘deep sleep’.

We are trying to imply the idea of bored teenagers almost fed up with their everyday life and wanting to try something new. Our target audience will enjoy this as they will be able to relate. We want them to see this and expect what will come next, to be interested in watching the rest of the video.  Our research told us that our target audience prefer young girls the same age as them, this helped us an awful lot as we chose exactly what they wanted.

Once Niamh has eventually closed her eyes the song starts and she wakes up, feeling like a new person she stands up throws her papers and acts like the reckless teenager she never was. After the others in class see this they join in and rush out of the class. The video now focuses more on the three main girls and their new life as crazy young reckless teens just enjoying life. The video follows them to places such as bowling, arcade, Camden town, people’s houses, in school and a bathroom to show the audience how much of a good time they are having.

After a while Niamh wakes up from Brookes Pencil to the head and relises it was a dream. She laughs and Tasnim and Brooke both give her a confused look and the music video ends.

We asked people whether they prefer narrative videos
or artist performance videos and the strongest reply
we got back was that narrative videos are the most popular.
From this we have decided to make out video have a
story behind it rather then the artist just lip sinking
through the video without a narrative.

We asked 'Do you like to see a lot of different locations in a music video?'
From the results to this question we decided that we would try and use as many different locations in our music video as this is what our target audience wants to see.

We asked people weather the like to see the artist in the video or not and got the very strong reply of yes. From this we have decided to show someone in the video lip sinking to try and show clearly that they are the artist to keep the target audience of our video happy.

We asked if people like to see people ‘messing about’ in music videos and most people said yes so we have decided to try and show young people having a lot of fun in our music video.
